The Asian Bond Markets Conference, to be held on Dec. 2 to 3, will consider common regulatory standards and market practices to help bolster the Asian bond markets development.

Malaysia's Securities Commission (SC) said in a statement here on Thursday that such conference would also facilitate cross-border transactions.

The two-day conference, themed "Gearing up Regulatory Framework and Regional Cooperation -- for New Era of Growth in Asian Bond Markets", will receive about 100 Asian policymakers and bond market participants.

The SC said that the conference was deemed an important platform for the governments and the industry to deliberate and consider critical issues in the development of the primary and secondary bond markets in Asia.

The SC also said that this would pave the way for greater financial integration in the Asian bond markets as envisaged under the Asian Bond Markets Initiative (ABMI).

The ABMI is an initiative endorsed by the Finance Ministers of ASEAN, China, South Korea and Japan (ASEAN+3), and supported by the Asian Development Bank co-hosting the conference.

Malaysian Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah will officiate the conference while ADB Vice President Bindu N. Lohani and SC Managing Director Ranjit Ajit Singh will also deliver their addresses.
